Manuela was born January 12, 1926 in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines, where she remained there until moving to the United States in response to a petition from her oldest son Ben Orinion, who was living in the United States as a member of the U.S. Navy. Manuela immigrated to the United States in 1976, temporarily leaving behind her husband and 12 children who resided at the Balatoc Mines, Benguet, Philippines. Shortly after immigrating, Manuela petitioned for her husband and her children to join her, where she reunited with her husband and nine of her children in Sunnyvale, California, thus realizing her dream of providing her family with an opportunity of a better life. She became a citizen of the United States in 1984.
Manuela was active throughout her life. During her early years, she enjoyed playing softball, volleyball and bowling. She later traveled throughout the western United States, visiting National Parks, amusement parks and zoos in Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada. She loved collecting photos and scrapbooking, reading, writing, and walking, whether in nature or at her favorite casino. Manuela was always thoughtful of those around her, remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of her family, where she would always let them know, she was thinking of them through personal exchange. She worked as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn, Sheraton and Ramada Inn, and continued to work hard until the age of 83, at which point she retired as head inspectress at the Ramada Inn.
After her retirement, she stayed active by watching over her grandchildren and continued to travel with her children. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, where she was always at her happiest being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Manuela always told her family, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”.
Manuela was a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She also donated generously to local charities, including those for U.S. veterans and law enforcement.
Manuela was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Donato M. aka (Atong), Father and Mother Tranquilino C. and Maria Salayug, son Eduardo, and daughter Manolita. She was survived by her children Flor, Ben & Josie, Cris & Lucie, Sylvia & Raul Dela Cruz, Aurora, Susan & Ron Lasiter, Gil, Nestor & Joanne, Raul & Chielo, Edgar & Beth, and Emy & Jon Liclican along with 33 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The Chapel of the Roses will be open from 9 am to 11 am October 25, 2019 at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial park for final visitation with family, and burial following at 11:30 am.
