Margaret Louise Andes
May 8, 1919 – November 20, 2018
Margaret Louise Andes passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 20, 2018, at her home in San Jose. Louise was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, to parents John and Theresa Coulter. She graduated from St. Vincent High School in Akron, Ohio, where she met her future husband, Ike Andes.
Louise and Ike married in 1943, during WWII, while Ike was on leave from the U.S. Navy. They were married for 69 years, until Ike passed away in 2012. They are survived by daughter Barbara Abernathy and sons Larry and Joe Andes and predeceased by daughter Arlene Bova.
After the end of WWII, Louise and Ike lived in Akron, Ohio, where Ike began work at IBM. A few years later, the Korean War brought them to San Francisco when Ike was recalled to active Naval duty. They remained in the SF Bay area in San Mateo following the war and Ike returned to work at IBM. Ike’s job later took the family to live in Sacramento, Portland OR, and finally San Jose.
Louise, Ike and their children enjoyed several cross-country driving trips back to Ohio to visit other family members and they toured many national parks and monuments along the way. In later years, Louise and Ike traveled to foreign countries and to their beloved Hawaiian Islands. Louise loved to entertain, joyfully preparing wonderful treats and beautiful floral arrangements for special occasions, holidays and bridge parties. She was a loving wife, mother and friend whose sweet memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
A funeral will be held December 6th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow Street, San Jose CA 95125. Donations in Louise’s memory can be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Ave., San Jose CA 95124 or to the charity of choice.
