Marilyn was born and raised in Paso Robles, CA. She was the eldest child of Bertram and Marion O. Davis. Her parents built a “cottage” on a lot of the Paso Robles Beach in Cayucos. Marilyn, her mother and sister Shirley spent most of the summers at the beach house. Her father would join them for weekends. For all of her life she enjoyed going to Cayucos. She gave her kids and grandkids a love of beach walks and tide pool exploring.
She was yearbook editor and valedictorian at Paso Robles High School. Upon Graduation from High School, she attended San Jose State for three years before transferring to UC Berkeley where she received an accounting degree. On the advice of a counselor she returned to San Jose State where she received a teaching credential. She took the CPA exam and went to work for a national accounting firm.
While working for a firm in San Francisco she met Ralph Coole and they were married in 1953 in Berkeley CA. Marilyn was not employed outside of the home while raising their family of three daughters and one son. As the children got older she started working from home for a friend who had an accounting firm. Marilyn and Ralph celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to his passing.
In 1963 the family moved to San Jose. The family joined the First Congregational Church and Marilyn served as Financial Secretary, member of Women’s Fellowship and as a member of the bell choir. She was involved with the local AAUW chapter.
