Mark Charles Bean

Mark Charles Bean, age 69, passed away at home on August 3, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. He was born on March 22, 1957 in Endicott, New York, the oldest of five children born to Neil Tyler Bean and Patricia Ryan Bean.

Mark graduated from South Burlington High School in Vermont where he played on the ice hockey and tennis teams as well as playing trumpet in the High School Band.

He went on to receive a B.A. in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Vermont. While at the University of Vermont, Mark joined Sigma Phi Epsilon, where he established many lifelong friendships.

In 1983, Mark married Cristie Bouchard, of Burlington, Vermont. Together they had two sons: Jordan Ryan Bean in 1986 and Christopher Tyler Bean in 1989.

In 1984, Mark and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he was employed in the tech industry. He worked for Amdahl Corporation from 1985 to 1993, and Spiralinks from 1993 to 2017, as a software engineer.

Mark was a big San Jose Sharks fan since their expansion into the NHL in 1991. He had a lifelong passion for downhill skiing and ice hockey, which he incorporated in his international travels and passed on to his sons.

Mark remarried in 2022 to Longyan Zhu, with whom he enjoyed his retirement and traveling.

Mark is predeceased by his father, Neil Bean and is survived by his mother, Patricia Bean; his wife, Longyan Zhu; his sons, Jordan Bean and Christopher Bean; his sisters, Judy Rancour and Mary Bean; two brothers, John Bean and Tom Bean, as well as his grandson and beloved nieces and nephews.
