Dearest Mark,
I will miss our crazy,  obnoxious,  funny conversations. I hope they have pool and poker tables in heaven. I'll keep all our precious memories tucked close to my heart. Rest in peace old friend.

Deann's Poker Crew

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Mark’s family. Please know that all of us who shared the poker table with him are grieving alongside you. He wasn’t just a poker friend—he was a part of our extended family.  We recently lost someone very special to us—our friend Mark, who many of us knew by his nicknames: “ShyTown,” “Grumpy,” or “Chicago.”  
I  still remember the first time I met him. He came across a little grumpy—not exactly welcoming—but I think that was just part of his poker game. Maybe even his secret weapon. When I asked where he was from, he said “Chicago.” That stuck with me. I started calling him “Chicago,” and others called him “ShyTown.”
He had this quiet but strong presence. And I always admired his hats—especially the ones with the four-leaf clovers. They were small touches that made him stand out and showed  a little of who he was underneath that poker face.
Mark wasn’t loud, but he had a way of making his mark. Whether it was through a look, a nod, or just the way he played his hand, he brought something real to the table.
Mark, it was a pleasure knowing you. I believe you’re still watching over us—maybe still trying to bluff us from up there.
To his family: thank you for sharing him with us. He’ll be missed more than words can say.  You’ll always have a seat at our table, Mark.

Mark was my grade school boyfriend at Beye School in OakPark IL.  He was funny and kind.   We taught each other how to kiss.  It was an innocent time of life.   So sorry he left this world so young.   Heidi Carlson

It is with heavy hearts that we remember Mark. Our friend that commanded the Poker table with an undeniable presence. Quick with jokes, clever sarcasm, and many, many, side bets. He brought laughter, joy, and stubbornness that bordered on frustration to the game. 

Our conversation about politics, poker, and grandchildren were always enlightening and warm. We met over a decade ago at a poker table, and from that moment on, we become extraordinary frenemies.

As we reflect on the memories we’ve shared, we are grateful! He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories we will tell about him.
