Maureen Jean Burton passed with peace and grace on Saturday, December 8, 2018, with her family of husband, sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren at her side to say an emotional and loving goodbye. Survived by her devoted and loving husband Adolph, two sons Pedro and Raymond, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Maureen was born in Norwich Norfolk, England. She married Adolph Burton in 1963 and moved to the United States that same year as a young married military wife. She soon devoted her energies into raising their children. Ultimately, she moved to San Jose with her husband and two sons. As her boys grew older, Maureen was approached by a neighbor and good friend who knew her skills and talents and offered her a job as a bookkeeper at Bank of America. At first Maureen hesitated, but then decided to take the leap and lo and behold she was a natural! Her attention to detail and meticulous work ethic allowed her to excel at her job. She quickly became a valued and popular employee. Maureen had an eye for fashion and always left for work looking stylish and sharp. She maintained her job for ten years and then opted to retire.
She loved world travel, especially to her beloved homeland of England. But other locales beckoned her, and her favorites included Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean and Canada.
“Nanny” as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an excellent cook. Her kitchen was never closed. Thursday night spaghetti feasts for family were a weekly ritual not to be missed. Nor was her famous gumbo and collard greens. Her morning always began with a steaming cup of Swiss mocha and her day concluded with a glass of Woodbridge Cabernet. She frequently exalted the health benefits of a glass of red wine a day.
Maureen, “Mo,” “Mum,” and “Nanny” will always be remembered as a beautiful loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose greatest passion was her love for her family.
She leaves us all rich in memories. . .
