A memorial service for Mel will be held in Wichita, Kansas at a date to be determined in the future at the Masonic home in Wichita when the current pandemic allows for safe social gatherings. Mel’s burial will be at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. The graveside gathering must be limited to family members due to social distancing that is necessary during the pandemic at this time.
Melvin was born in Idana, an unincorporated community in Clay County, Kansas on November 14, 1934. He married twice and had three children. Melvin was married to Frances J. Tracy as a young man. They were married for one year and had Melvin’s first child, Melva Rose Loveland.
Melvin married again to Helen Marie Wentz in 1954. They were married for 16 years and had two children: Jeanne Lynn Loveland Freiberger and Steve Lane Loveland.
Melvin followed his father Everett Loveland into the Tool and Die Machinist profession until he was disabled early in his life in 1966.
He enjoyed his family and friends and loved to joke and tease at every opportunity. Melvin was still joking until the end of his life and was a favorite resident in his retirement home. Mel greatly valued his involvement in the Masons for over 60 years since 1959. He was very active in the Scottish Rite and the Shriners as a young man.
Melvin is survived by his 3 children, Jeanne, Steve and Melva, 8 grandchildren, 6 greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, many family and friends in Kansas and California.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; Everett, Elizabeth Cole, his two brothers, Donald and Richard and two sisters; Rovenna and Dorothy.
