Miguel Martinez Jr., lovingly known to his family as “Mito,” was a one-of-a-kind person whose presence brought love, laughter, and joy to the people around him. Miguel was born on September 26, 1989, and spent his childhood growing up in San Jose with his family, especially his older brother, Oscar.
As a child, Miguel was known at home as being very shy. But whenever his family spoke with his teachers, they would hear something completely different. They would say, “Miguelito isn’t shy at all—he’s fun, outgoing, and friendly.” That was Mito. Once he felt comfortable, his personality came alive, and his smile and sense of humor could light up a room.
Miguel was also a bright and curious child who especially enjoyed doing his homework, particularly math. When his aunt would ask him how he seemed to know all the answers, Miguel would simply say, “It came to me in my dreams.” That little answer perfectly captured his imagination and the unique way he saw the world.
Growing up, Miguel developed a deep love for music. In high school, he became a musician, playing the guitar and loving the drums. He had a special fascination with the 1960s and often dreamed about what it would have been like to live during that time. He loved the spirit of the era and considered himself a true hippie at heart.
Nature was another important part of Miguel’s life. He loved being outdoors, especially going on hikes. Being surrounded by trees, fresh air, and the beauty of nature made him feel free. Hiking gave Mito a sense of peace and happiness that he carried with him.
Miguel also had a lifelong love for Pokémon and was an avid collector. His favorite Pokémon was Squirtle, a favorite that became part of the many things that made Mito uniquely himself. He enjoyed going on bike rides with his friends and spending countless hours playing video games. Whether he was exploring the outdoors, riding his bike, listening to music, collecting Pokémon, or getting lost in a video game, Miguel knew how to enjoy the things he loved.
One of the greatest gifts Miguel left behind was the memories he created with the people who loved him. His family and friends will remember his childhood adventures, his music, his love for nature, his humor, and all the little things that made him Mito.
Miguel will forever be remembered not only as a beloved son, brother, family member, and friend, but as the fun, free-spirited, kind, and unforgettable person he was.
Though he is no longer with us, Mito’s spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. His memories will continue to bring smiles, his stories will continue to be told, and the love he gave will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Mito. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever be a part of us.
