Nava Hod of Swampscott MA passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2024 at the age of 72. She was the beloved wife of Zeev Hod z”l, daughter of Mordechai (Motush) z”l and Hannah z”l Porat of Givatayim, Israel.
She leaves behind her daughter Sarit (Ron) Warshawsky, son Aviv (Emily Wiese) Hod, son Adi (Rachel) Hod, brother Avi (Sheila) Porat, and sister Sarah z”l, as well as her grandchildren Shiri, David, Elad, and Ariel Warshawsky, Ilan and Sivan Hod, and Talia Hod.
Nava was born and raised in Givatayim, Israel. She developed a talent for the accordion at a young age and enjoyed bringing music, singing, and laughter to a crowd. She married her beloved husband Zeev and they toured as a musical duo around Israel, traveling together on Zeev’s Vespa while Nava carried her accordion on her back.
She studied at Tel Aviv University and became an elementary school teacher with specialization in Hebrew and Jewish studies. Later in life, she earned a Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation from Drake University.
Her adventurous spirit brought her and her family to the United States where she was a teacher at Jewish Day schools in Jacksonville FL, Des Moines IA, and Farmington Hills MI. She taught Hebrew at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA. Together with Zeev she then moved to Sunnyvale CA, Plano TX, and Ramat Gan Israel.
She retired in Swampscott MA where she joined Congregation Shirat Hayam.
No one can forget meeting Nava, who had an outgoing and vivacious personality that would always liven up a room. If you didn’t know any Hebrew before meeting her, the teacher in her would ensure you would learn a few words even after a brief interaction.
