Palmira Dore, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024. Born on October 5, 1936, in Mussomeli, Sicily, Italy, she was the second child of Alfonsina and Giuseppe Ingrao. Palmira's early years were marked by resilience and adaptability, as she journeyed with her family through post-WWII Europe, eventually settling in San Jose, California, where she carved out a rich and fulfilling life.
At the age of nine, Palmira's family relocated to Torino, Italy, and later to Avril, France, where she pursued her education in homemaking. It was in France that she met the love of her life, Giovanni Dore, whom she married on July 31, 1954, after a whirlwind romance that began in January of the same year. Together, they embarked on the journey of parenthood, welcoming their children Gaetan, Marie Jose, and Rita into the world.
In 1973, Palmira and Giovanni made the bold decision to move to San Jose, California, where they built a vibrant life centered around family, community, and cherished traditions. Palmira's warmth and hospitality were evident in the countless family gatherings she hosted, where her homemade pasta sauce became legendary among her loved ones. She found joy in nurturing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her love infusing every meal she prepared and every story she shared.
Palmira's zest for life extended beyond her kitchen, as she delighted in watching Italian soap operas and romances, keeping her connection to her roots alive through regular correspondence with her family in France and Italy. Though she faced immense sorrow with the loss of her husband, Giovanni, and two of her children, Gaetan and Marie Jose, Palmira's faith provided her solace, and she found comfort in the belief of a joyous reunion in heaven.
Palmira leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, remembered fondly by her younger sister, Angele Ingrao, her daughter, Rita Del Ponte, her grandchildren Christina Medina, Nathan Dore, Amanda Kendall, Catalina Sodos, Sabrina Del Ponte, and her great-grandchildren Elliana Barragan, Elijah Medina Aguirre, Leah Kendall, Ella Kendall, and Cataleya Dore. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones in the embrace of eternal joy.
