Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 11, 1940, Paul grew up in a busy house with his eight brothers and three sisters. After graduating from Saint Augustine’s High School he joined the United States Air Force before pursuing an English major at Xavier University while working at the famous Court of Two Sisters restaurant.
He relocated to San Francisco in 1969 where he met his wife, Marlene. Paul and Marlene later moved to San Jose where they would build their life and raise their family. Paul began a long and dedicated career with Montgomery Ward, before working at Home Depot until his eventual retirement. Known for his personable nature and humor, he earned the respect and friendship of many throughout his decades of employment.
Retirement allowed Paul to fully lean into his creative passions. He loved to make things including wooden birdhouses and lighthouses, which he loved to give to friends and family. He was a staple at church services each week serving as a hospitality minister every Sunday. He loved to travel, especially on cruises, and enjoyed visiting family and friends in the US and Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Perez; his children, David Perez (Sue Poandl) and Nicole Perez (Aaron Shepard); and his six grandchildren, Owen, Ryan, Noah, Avery, Lily, and Jacob, who brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his siblings, George, Kenneth, James, Morris, Maurice, and Juanita, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Paul is reunited with his parents, Bessie and George Perez, and his siblings, Bernard, Carmen, Elwood, Aleta and Charles.
Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
