Ramón Ramos Rolon was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico his parents were Maria Dolores and Jacinto Ramos. He was affectionately known as "Monchito". He is survived and will be remembered by his children Katherine, Michelle, Jessica, Raymond Jr., Mayra Nicole, and all his grandchildren.
Ramon was one of 11 children; at the age of 16 he changed his age to join the army, where he served honorably. When he left the army he lived in California a short time and then in the city of New York where in the midst of a turbulent life he came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and his life was transformed.
I always remember him saying that he saw a preacher and told the Lord, "I want to be like him." He received the call to ministry and was only one year in Christ when he began to Pastor his first Church. He always shared proudly that he traveled three hours to and three hours back after the service.
After his first marriage where God blessed him with two daughters, Katherine and Michelle Ramos, he had the opportunity in 1979 to find love again and raise a family. Many in Monte Horeb have heard him say that he won Pastora Jackie for the Lord and for himself ... Together they had three children Jessica, Raymond Josue and Mayra Nicole Ramos and five granddaughters.
In 1986 after months of seeking God's guidance my parents moved from New York City to San Jose California. God opened great doors for him and gave him the privilege of traveling to different countries in Central, South America and the Caribbean to preach the gospel.
He never stopped preaching and I remember missing him throughout my childhood, but, I understood that he had a calling from God to reach out and win souls for the Kingdom.
In 2003, God called him to pastor again, this time at Templo Monte Horeb in Sunnyvale CA. He always testified of how God spoke to his heart and gave him a vision for Monte Horeb he was going to fulfill. The first years were difficult, but my dad was never one to retreat in the face of opposition.
His biggest challenge came in the form of construction. He had purposed in his heart to build and extend the church regardless of the road blocks that stood before him. Many would come with great financial promises throughout that season; and even when those promises fell through He declared that His father in heaven is the owner of all the gold and silver. He believed that the church was going to be completed by faith so that God and not man would receive the glory. After 3 years of hard work, fasting and prayer, God gave him the victory and he saw his vision realized as the church was expanded and doubled in capacity.
He pushed forward throughout those years, however, his health began to decline and it was then when he had his first heart attack. The load was great and he seemed tired and fatigued. Through it all he continued forward, preaching, exhorting, and praising God. Something I always admired of him was his strength; once he focused on doing something no one could stop him.
My mom always said he was stubborn as a mule - Although she says that about me too!
In his last days he said with great love and emotion in his voice that “God had given him the best congregation in the world. A congregation with a heart that loves God, their Pastor and above all each other!
My Dad, your Pastor Rev. Ramón Ramos was not a perfect man; he had many faults as we all do. But he also had great love - I know because I had to share him with many of you, I shared him with those who needed to hear the message of salvation, in Mexico, el Salvador, Guatemala, Cuba and across the US. I shared him with those who needed prayer, those who needed advice, those who needed help in the middle of the night, and those who needed help financially. As Pastor he loved his flock and was willing to give his life for them. He always said he wanted to die with his boots on in the battlefield and the Lord granted his desire.
There’s no way to summarize a life in a few pages, or to say all we wish to say, but I’ll conclude with this:
Today we celebrate the life of a great man of God! Today we celebrate the life of my father, friend, your Pastor, friend, minister of God and fellow soldier.
He always said a Christian never says goodbye – they can only say see you soon, until then, I love you Dad!
God bless you all.
