I am very sorry to hear of Becky's passing.  She was my very first and best friend when attending San Jose Day Nursery School.  We knew each other all the way through jr. high & high school.

Watching Becky excel in sports let me know she was going to be a PE teacher.  Whatever she wanted to be, she would be the best.

Reading her obituary I see where we will be reunited again.  What a glorious day that will be.

My heart is broken after learning of the passing of one of the most amazing women/coach/teacher and friend.  Doug you always have and always will hold a special spot in my heart!   I cherish the memories I have of you.  I love Doug (Becky) until we meet again!

Doug was the teacher that got me thru high school. She became a great friend! Becky was a wonderful soccer coach and it was an honor playing for her. She gave great advise and kept many of us on the right path in life. I had the pleasure of reconnecting a few yrs ago and I was able to thank her for her support and friendship. Thanks everyone for all of your very kind words! Becky was truly one of the great ones. She was truly my best friend, soul mate and life partner. We did have a beautiful life together and she will always be in my heart! The world was truly a better place with her being in it and she made me the person I am today. She did teach me to stop and smell the flowers, take a second look at that beautiful rainbow, and enjoy each and every sunset. I am one lucky man to have had her in my life for 38 years! RIP my very special friend!

I met her a couple of years ago as she moved into apt next to me...She was so kind.. Becky was a dear friend and one of the strongest woman I know. I met her here on Maui, and that was a day I'll always remember. She showed me all the best places to find sea shells. And we shared lobsters at Christmas dinners here at our home. Gardening and orchids we both loved so much

I remember riding my bike to Bart and Becky's for my first "sleepover". Becky was like the coolest grandma/aunt/coach/friend. I love and cherish those memories so much and am so thankful I was blessed with her presence! I am sending all of the love in my hear to the Spina family and friends, especially Bart. Miss you.

I was so sad to hear of coach Doug passing away.  She was such an amazing coach, mentor, and friend.  I'm 45 years old and can still hear her voice cheering us all on the field like it was yesterday.  Our 1998 team was her first to win the Southern Division Championship.  Coach Doug impacted the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, and may you all know just how much her soccer players loved her.
I'll never forget Coach Doug telling my mom during our end of the year party at her house, as she always always welcomed her team for celebrations, that "Never before and never again will I have the pleasure of coaching a team as special as ours."

To the family of Coach Douglas/Spina. 
I was completely shocked when I found out of Coach's passing. It took me by surprise and I just completely sobbed after seeing her obituary. I can't even tell you how much she meant to me. She was an amazing soccer coach and person. I had the pleasure of playing for her at Independence HS from 1985-1988. The love, support and encouragement she gave all of us on and off the field made us all better players and people. I haven't seen Coach Spina in years and if hearing of her death impacted me that greatly, I can't imagine what her family and friends who got to see her daily or much more frequently than I had must feel. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. She was an extremely special lady and I will never forget how she touched my life!

Becky is the reason I am the coach, teacher and person I am today.  She was my teacher, my coach, my master teacher, my surrogate mom and my friend.  She taught me how to teach, and more importantly how to be a teacher.  I owe so much to her.  I hope she had an inkling of how greatly she affected her players and students lives.  Every one if us is a better person for having had her in our lives.

The love, guidance and laughter you gave to me on that soccer field will never be forgotten Doug, RIP.

Thank you Coach Spina for being a part of my life! You were such a great person with a great smile! The memories of playing soccer for you in high school will live forever! Thank you! Rest in peace!
