Robert Joseph Lyon was born in Mexico, Missouri on Jan. 14, 1932, the only son of Robert Frank & Myrl Prather Lyon. He passed away April 24 in Hollister, CA from COPD and old age. He was raised mostly in Colorado & joined the Navy in 1951 during the “Korean conflict”. He returned to school on the GI Bill and got a degree in mathematics. Entering the workplace in the budding field of computer programming, he worked various places from Adams Assoc. in Boston to Lockheed Martin (LM) in Sunnyvale. Projects included a semantics program at Harvard to the Hubble Space Telescope & Milstar programs at LM. At LM he designed the Satellite Automated Test System used on several LM programs. He lived a long and interesting life: golf, photography, woodworking, cars/ racing, music, jewelry & stained glass, lots of books, Giant’s baseball & FreeCell. His unique sense of humor was reflected in his writings on Buddhism, life and in the emails he sent. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan; children Laurelle (Steve) Zamparelli, OH; Karl (Debi) Heidrich, OH & Christopher Lyon, CO; and his favorite relative & friend, Albert & Nancy Okamoto. A service will be held on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin 640 North Fifth Street San Jose, California 95112.
