Roberto Cruz was born in Tlacuitapa, Jalisco, Mexico on May 7, 1939. He was one of 9 children born to Manuel Cruz Miranda and Dolores Ulloa Amezquita. Roberto was married to Maria de la Luz Hernandez, also of Tlacuitapa, in 1963. Roberto and Maria had 10 children. Their first born son, Jose Taurino, died shortly after birth. Their eldest living children, Lola, Luz, Mariana, Robert Jr, Ruth, and Luis were born in Tlacuitapa. Their youngest children, Joe, Raymond and Cynthia were born in Texas. Roberto loved two things in life, his family and planting and harvesting crops. He could always be found outdoors, in his cowboy hat, working on something. He was a very hard worker who began working the land at a very young age. Some of his fondest memories were of him, traveling throughout Los Altos de Jalisco with his Dad, selling their tobacco crops. Roberto was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and sang in the traditional bolero style of Jalisco. Roberto’s greatest accomplishment was his family for whom he made many sacrifices including leaving his beloved homeland to immigrate to America in search for a better future for them. In addition to his 9 children, he and Maria raised almost all of their 21 grandchildren from infancy until school age. His grandchildren and great grand-children adored their grandfather, who they admired as a larger than life figure who in their eyes could do amazing things. Roberto passed away in peace surrounded by his family and is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, a son and his beloved wife, Maria. We will miss him every day but take comfort in knowing he has entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and is reunited with his wife who he dearly missed.
