October 27, 1947 - November 21, 2023
A very glorious occasion occurred in the Balan family when Rodelio Balan came to this world to Rody and Lilia Balan 76 years ago, last October 27, 1947.
Del, as we called him, was the first grandson of the Balans. He grew up to be the center of everyone’s attention in the family. As a teen, he was very conscious of his personality! He saw to it that he was up to date in fashion.
He was popular in his group called the HEPTANS, together with Cris Saulo (his best friend, who also passed from this world).
As he grew up, he became involved in some civic organizations.
Later he graduated from college and earned a degree in Finance.
He was employed by a prestigious company for years, then the family migrated here to San Jose, California in 1978.
Jobs at that time were very scarce, he started working for a small company in San Francisco, where he commuted daily back and forth to San Jose! Sometimes he stayed with friends and one of those times he met Olivia, who was visiting from Connecticut! They fell in love and soon were married.
God is good and soon the couple decided to move to San Jose. Del found a good job and Olivia was employed at Kaiser as a medical tech.
Soon they were blessed with two boys, Edmund and Michael.
It was at the peak of his career as a director of finance for a company in Silicon Valley when Del had a heart transplant at Stanford Hospital in 2005. The surgery was very successful. He lived a normal life for years with the care of his doctor! Since then he had taken many medications.
He was healthy, living a happy and normal life. He retired from work in 2013. He then enjoyed
traveling with his family.
But as time went by, his kidneys were failing. It was on this year that he became very sickly and weak.
He could not drive anymore and would ask Olivia to drive him if he had a doctor’s appointment.
And then on the morning of November 21, Olivia found him lifeless on his recliner!
He is survived by his wife, Olivia, his two sons, Edmund and Michael, his mother, a sister and a brother.
God bless your soul, Del!
You will remain in our hearts!
We will meet again on the day of the resurrection with our Lord!
