Rosie Zamora was born Rose Marie Gomez in Los Angeles, California on September 18, 1944 to Jenny and Freddie Gomez. When her father passed away Jennie married Anthony “Tony” Navarro and he became Pops. She was fun-loving, spirited, and loved her family deeply.
Rosie’s father was in the United States Air Force and she lived on various bases until he passed in 1950. After his death she moved to San Jose, California, and would travel back to Los Angeles to visit her family often. She attended Peter Burnet Junior High and Abraham Lincoln High School in San Jose, California. It was at Abraham Lincoln High School where she met her good friend Helen Zamora. Helen Zamora was the younger sister of Robert “Sonny” Zamora, her future husband. She married Sonny on January 18, 1964, they celebrated their 60th anniversary earlier this year.
Sonny and Rosie welcomed their son, Robert Zamora II 9 months later. Their daughter Robyn Zamora joined the family in 1967. Rosie was a loving mom and enjoyed spending time with her kids. She was very involved with her kids growing up. She was the ice skating, sports mom. She was even involved with Red Cross, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She and Sonny started a family tradition of road trips across the country, always stopping in Sonny’s native New Mexico to visit family.
As grandchildren and great-grandchild came along, she had even more love to share. She would tell you that she had a white set and brown set. She was so proud of them and burst at the seams with love for them. She made sure that they got to experience the family road trip tradition.
She may have been born Rose but it was Rosie or Ochie. So sorry if you called her Rose. She was fun-loving, silly, sassy and a fighter. You knew immediately if she loved you, and you also knew if she didn’t. She faced many difficult times in her life with loss and poor health, but she always showed her family, especially her grandchildren, how much they meant to her. She endured a lot in her life and can rest peacefully knowing the love she sowed lives on in her family.
She joins her son, Robert, her mother Jenny and father, Freddie, and stepfather, Tony in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Sonny, Daughter Robyn, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
