Ruben Moreno – Obituary
Ruben Moreno – Born 7/17/47 in Wasco, CA. Passed 9/6/20 in Modesto, CA. He was a former, long-time resident of San Jose, CA. Ruben is survived by his loving children Ruben Moreno, Jr. of San Jose, Ralph Moreno of San Jose, and Veronica Fleming and husband Kelton Fleming of San Jose. Ruben had eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many others who called him “Tata” and “Pops”. Ruben is also survived by his sister Mary Roach of Manteca, CA, Sister Tommie Moreno of San Jose, and Brother Raymond Moreno of San Jose. Ruben Moreno graduated San Jose High School, Class of 1965, and was a proud Bulldog. Following high school Ruben enjoyed 30-year career in construction carpentry. He was an honorary lifetime member of Carpenter’s Union Local 405, formerly 316. Notable projects worked on included Eastridge Mall, Mission Community College, and Evergreen Valley High School. After retirement from Local 405 Ruben worked several years for the City of Jose, as the maintenance manager for San Jose Family Camp in Groveland, CA. During the Bicentennial year of 1976 Ruben joined the Army National Guard. He served patriotically and faithfully in the California National Guard, HHC 3rd BDE 40th INF DIV, and San Jose, CA. He was retired honorably in 2007 with rank of SSG E6. Ruben was passionate about football and baseball and loved volunteering as a youth coach for more than two decades with Eastside Gridiron Football, Evergreen PAL Football, Mayfair Little League, East Hills Little League, and the YMCA. Ruben also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Modesto, Ca where he enthusiastically served others with his knowledge of construction and home remodeling. Ruben was renowned for his generosity of time, his gregarious personality, his uproarious laughter, and huge, inviting smile. Ruben aided legions of family and friends with his amazing craftsmanship, remodeling and handyman skills. Ruben was a lifelong learner and continuously honed his drawing and painting skills. He was fond of whimsical and folksy style landscape paintings featuring birds, birdhouses, flowers, and his signature heart flowers and “I Love You” themes. Most importantly, Ruben will eternally be remembered for his gift of building lifelong relationships and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
