Russell was born in Geneva, NY September 28, 1938. He spent his first 28 years in New York. His first job was working with his father Nicosia Palazzolo shining shoes and delivering groceries. He enjoyed playing sports in High School with baseball being his favorite. Following High School he became part of the Philadelphia Phillies organization playing for the Cayuga's in Auburn, NY Unfortunately his career ended abruptly when he was hit by a pitch, but not his love of the game. He was a die hard New York Yankees fan his entire life. He spent the next 60 years of life in the Transportation /Logistics Industry. Beginning with Isbrandtsen Company in New York NY as a Messenger at the age of 19. He was eventually hired by General Electric in Syracuse, NY where he spent a 36 year career building an incredible Transportation/Logistics Department. A year after retiring, he said now what.... so for the next 15 years he became a Transportation Consultant sharing his knowledge and expertise with CED/Hajoca/Laird Plastics Family of Companies. He had an enormous impact on the Industry with his creativity and thinking outside of the box. He was well known and thought of by his peers and freight carriers throughout his career and lifetime.
Music ran deep in his family and was an important part of his life. His sister Lena was the first female musician to play at Radio City Music Hall. She was a violinist who earned the opportunity to play with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. He ensured music would continue in the family. At the age of 5, both of his sons were encouraged to pick a musical instrument. Mark chose the guitar and Guy chose the piano. He was one proud Father watching them excel through the years. He managed the Randy Tyler Band, a 6-piece combo that performed in the Bay area in addition to Silky Sounds that was a Piano/Bar Guitar Duo that featured Mark Palazzolo and his good friend Rich Turnoy. In 2011 he produced "Friends and Family" a CD Recorded by Guy and Mark Palazzolo.
Russell loved life, having a strong desire to help those in need. Whether it be ensuring a child had a Christmas Gift, to supporting the 2nd Harvest Food bank to helping a neighbor when times were tough. He made a major impact in the lives of people both professionally and personally.
His favorite pastime was building N-Gauge model trains complete with buildings, train depots and truck lines. He might have had a slight addiction with collecting "picture" cards...baseball, football, basketball and hockey... had his own private store.
Dad, in our hearts you hold a very special place no one else can ever fill. Your legacy will continue through the lives of family and friends. Part of us went with you the day God took you home, but we will meet again when we too enter the Kingdom. You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cathedral of Faith Reaching Out Program by clicking on the following link or the non-profit charity of your choice. https://cathedraloffaith.org/ Scroll down to the Reaching Out Section where you can make a donation. This program was near and dear to Dad's heart. One of his favorite expressions was "mangia" or "gotta eat".... this was his way of ensuring he could help those that might need it.
