SAL PHILIP STRANO

January 11, 1946 - July 30, 2024

Sal Philip Strano was born on January 11, 1946 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York and passed away on July 30, 2024 in Palo Alto, California. A private funeral service will be held in San Jose and a graveside service will be held at the Riverview Cemetery in Monticello, Indiana.

Sal was the only child of Gemma Jean (Soma) Strano and Philip John Strano. He grew up in Brooklyn and Richmond Hill, New York. He had many joyful childhood memories of his Italian family and friends. He especially cherished his cousins: Caroline, Josephine, Gloria, Connie, and David.

Sal graduated in June 1963 from Richmond Hill High School, Queens, New York, in August 1966. Sal moved to California to attend San Jose State University where he completed a degree in Business Industrial Management. He continued his education at Santa Clara University where he obtained his Masters in Counseling Psychology.

During his career, Sal worked in various positions with the Employment Development Department, counseling the blind at the State Rehabilitation Department, and coordinating Disabled Student Services at various Community Colleges. The last thirteen years he worked with the Mental Health Department at the Santa Clara County Jail. Sal then, after retiring, was a LMFT psycho therapist at Counseling Psychologist, INC., Cupertino, CA through 2018.

Sal enjoyed life. He always had a twinkle in his eyes; he was witty, and had a ready smile for everyone. He loved to make people laugh and lighten the day for those around him. He was not afraid to share his sense of humor with everyone he met. He was compassionate, generous, intelligent, personable, and kind. His outgoing personality and his charm won the heart of Jeanne Rose Thomas. They were married on September 2, 1978. Sal and Jeanne have one son, SJ (Sal John). The three of them lived in San Jose, California. They have always enjoyed the cute behavior of animals, especially their family cats that they have enjoyed over the years.

Sal was an avid golfer. Other hobbies included gardening, black and white photography, sports, and listening to Jeanne play the piano. Sal was a devoted San Jose State Sports fan.

Sal is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jeanne Thomas; his son, SJ, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Sal's caring, thoughtfulness, compassion, strength, and sense of humor will be missed by family, friends, and all that knew him. His life has made a positive impact on many people through his personal life and his career.
