Socorro Moreno

On January 29, 2022, Socorro Moreno passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at age 79 after years of courageous battle with several illnesses. Socorro was the beloved mother of two daughters and three sons, and grandmother to three grandsons and three granddaughters; she was also an adored sister and aunt.

However, many people considered Socorro their surrogate mother. She cared deeply for everyone that visited her home. She was the “Rock” and the foundation that her family was built on. Socorro was born November 11, 1942, in Tecuala, Nayarit, Mexico and immigrated to the United States with her husband in 1969, where they established their home in San Jose, California, where she lived and raised a family until her death.

It would be wrong to say that Socorro lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined, loved life, and never complained of pain. When anyone else would have broken, Socorro stayed strong, she suffered several medical setbacks, but always got back up, and came back strong. Through her, we know what resilience, perseverance and courage truly look like. There was no quit in Socorro. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

She earned her right to rest alongside her husband of 58 years, Nicomedes Moreno, who preceded her in death. She also joins several brothers (José, Víctor, Torivio, and Félix) and her beloved sister Aurelia in eternal rest. We can rejoice in the knowledge that our mother is reunited with those she most loved and patiently waits for each of us to join them in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Socorro was a devout Catholic, who had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, and in Nuestra Señora De Guadalupe. Her message to all of us in achieving success in life was simple, Love and respect each other as brothers and sisters. Dedicate your life in the service of your people. When you rise in the morning, give thanks to God for the joy of living. Show Respect to all people and their views and demand that they respect yours. She prayed a rosary every night before going to bed asking for the well-being of all her loved ones. As her health deteriorated recently, she did not fear death, but was thankful for the life she lived and the family she raised. Socorro will continue to live in our hearts and minds, not a day will pass that I won’t think of my “Ruquita” and the life lessons she taught all of us. May she rest in peace, and eternal light shine for her, so be it. Amen!

Socorro is survived by her five children: Rosa, Sandra, Jorge, Javier, Daniel and six grandchildren: Angel, Luis, Daisy, Mateo, Athena, and Lucy. They invite you to join them for a Memorial service and prayer of the Rosary.

The service will be held Tuesday February 15, 2022, from 3pm – 9pm at the Lima Family Memorial Chapel located at 710 Willow St., San Jose, CA. The following day, February 16, 2022, at 10am a procession will commence from the Lima Family Memorial Chapel to Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, located at 2165 Lucretia Ave., San Jose, CA. After mass, we will proceed to Oak Hill Memorial Park located at 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA. where she will be laid to rest.

El 29 de Enero de 2022, Socorro Moreno a sus 79 años falleció en paz mientras dormía, después de años de batallar contra varias enfermedades. Socorro fue la amada madre de dos hijas y tres hijos, y abuela de tres nietos y tres nietas, también fue una adorada hermana y tía. Sin embargo, muchas personas consideraban a Socorro una figura maternal. Ella gozaba inmensamente las visitas familiares y de sus amistades. Ella era la "Roca" y la base sobre la que se construyó su familia. Socorro nació el 11 de Noviembre de 1942 en Tecuala, Nayarit, México y emigró a los Estados Unidos con su esposo en 1969, donde establecieron su hogar en San José California, donde vivió y formó una familia hasta su muerte.

Sería un error decir que Socorro perdió la batalla porque nunca dejó de luchar. No importaba lo enferma que estuviera, siempre estaba decidida, amaba la vida y no se quejaba de dolor. Cuando cualquier otra persona se hubiera rendido, Socorro se mantuvo fuerte, sufrió varios contratiempos médicos, pero siempre se recuperó y regresaba más fuerte. A través de ella, realmente aprendimos la resiliencia, la perseverancia y el valor. Socorro nunca se rindió. El hecho de que ella ya no esté aquí no significa que haya perdido la batalla.

Se ganó su derecho a descansar junto a su esposo de 58 años, Nicomedes Moreno, quien la precedió en la muerte. Ella también se une a varios hermanos (José, Víctor, Torivio, y Félix) y su amada hermana Aurelia en el descanso eterno. Podemos consolarnos al saber que nuestra madre se reencuentra con sus seres más queridos y espera pacientemente que cada uno de nosotros nos unamos a ellos en el Reino de los Cielos.

Socorro era una católica devota, que tenía una fe inquebrantable en Jesucristo y en Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Su mensaje a todos nosotros para lograr el éxito en la vida fue simple: Ámense y respétense unos a otros como hermanos y hermanas. Dedica tu vida al servicio de tu prójimo. Cuando te levantes por la mañana, da gracias a Dios por la alegría de vivir. Muestre respeto a todas las personas y sus puntos de vista y exija que respeten los suyos. Rezaba un rosario todas las noches antes de acostarse pidiendo por el bienestar de todos sus seres queridos. Debido a que su salud se deterioró recientemente, no temía a la muerte, y estaba agradecida por la vida que vivió y por la familia que crio. Socorro seguirá viviendo en nuestros corazones y mentes, no pasará un día que no piense en mi “Ruquita” y las lecciones de vida que nos enseñó a todos. Que en paz descanse, y brille para ella la eterna luz, que así sea. ¡Amén!

A Socorro le sobreviven sus cinco hijos Rosa, Sandra, Jorge, Javier, Daniel y seis nietos Ángel, Louise, Daisy, Mateo, Athena y Lucy. Te invitan a unirte a ellos para un servicio conmemorativo y rezo del Rosario.

El servicio se llevará a cabo el martes 15 de febrero de 2022 en la Capilla Conmemorativa de la Familia Lima ubicada en 710 Willow St. San José, CA. Al día siguiente, 16 de febrero de 2022, se iniciará una procesión desde la Capilla Conmemorativa de la Familia Lima hasta la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora del Refugio, ubicada en 2165 Av. Lucrecia, San José, CA. Después de la misa nos dirigiremos al Oak Hill Memorial Park ubicado en 300 Curtner Ave, San José, CA. donde será sepultada.
