I don’t have the words to express the impact your life has had. The continued growth and success of Robert, Lisa, Janet, and Tammy are all the legacy one needs. I’m grateful to have known you.

Dear Song:

We have known you for quite a while. You were the gentlest, quietest, and most unassuming man that we have ever known. In all that time we can count on four hands the number of words we have shared. And each time we met the words were a little more than “hello”, “how are you?“, “goodbye” and “would you like to have some tea?”.

However, even though you did not speak much in our presence, we were able to observe your interactions with your family and other people. We observed you to be a gentleman and a good man. You might ask, Thu and Paul, how do you know this? What proof do you have? And we would simply answer, “look at your children, Trang, Tram, Tran, and Tam, all good, happy, and successful, just like their dad”.

Our understanding, from family members, is that in your youth you were a male nurse in the army of the Republic of Vietnam. When south Vietnam fell, the Communists imprisoned you in a reeducation camp for two years. It must have been a challenging time for you and your family. Surely a man this good and gentle who simply served the country he loved did not deserve to be treated this way.

We are glad to have known you. In no small way you enriched us. We will miss you.
