I remember Mr. Obey very well from my time at PS 16 in the year 1990-1991 when he was assistant principal of that school back then later that year he was promoted to become principal of PS 31. Mr. Obey was a very caring and compassionate individual. It was an honor to have Mr. Obey as my assistant principal. Mr. Obey I love you and miss you. Rest peacefully. 

I remember when I was a 4th grader in PS 16 in the 1990-1991 year  Mr. Obey was my Assistant Principal and he was the BEST. Mr. Obey, I love you and miss you. Rest in Peace and God Rest Your Soul.

When my wife passed three years ago I found great comfort in all the people attending her wake. Unfortunately , due to the Corona, you missed out on that comfort. Arnold was a great man and a true friend to many. If it helps, the wake would have been packed . God Bless you all  and have strength

Arnold Obey was a great player for Dewitt Clinton H.S. and a class act. Peace and Love to his family.

I worked with Arnie in 1969 when we first started out at P.S. 44. We were Above Quota teachers (permanent subs) assigned to the school.  We subbed together, got shipped out to sub at neighborhood schools when needed, had lunch at Papi"s Deli in Port Richmond or Coppotelli's in Mariners Harbor and commiserated together when we were assigned to clean out book closets and storerooms when we weren't needed elsewhere. He was my dance partner for a PTA event! I'll remember him always as a gentleman and a gentle man and the kindest of human beings.

Arnold epitomized “class”..... just a wonderful human being . Thank you for your friendship .

Wow I can't believe it. He was my principal 20 years ago. I was just thinking about him a few weeks ago. He was such an amazing principal. I remember when he gave a classmate $1 after another kid stole hers, I always remembered that moment. It was one of the nicest acts I've ever seen. My prayers to his family, he has deeply impacted my life and many others. 

Mr. Obey was such a wonderful man. I was privileged to work as a kindergarten teacher in his school on Staten Island. I was a fill- in teacher after 9/11 when someone left. Mr. Obey did everything he could to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and secure in this last minute position.  With his warm smile, funny sense of humor, and kind heart, I felt right at home.  I have never had a principal as genuine as Mr. Obey.
 All these years have gone by since I left that teaching position and I still remember and think of him  as the wonderful man he was. I will never forget him.
G-D bless him and may he rest in peace.

Arnold, my college roomie and lifelong friend, I will miss you terribly. From the first day we met, we forged a bond that lasted a lifetime. I will miss our weekly conversations. You were one of the nicest guys I have ever known and I cherished our friendship and was honored to  be the godfather of your oldest daughter. Throughout our friendship you were always the stabilizing force. May your soul rest in peace and your wonderfulness live in the hearts and memories of Cheryl, Celisse, Tonya and Karyn. You will be sorely missed by all. A part of me died with your passing.

I was so sorry to hear of Arnold's passing. You couldn't be a better guy than he was. The world is a little bit of a darker place without him.
