Mike was born on January 4, 1950 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Luis Vazquez and Gloria Seijo. He was the second of ten children in the family, which included his brothers Luisito, Freddy, Angel, Ismael and Joey, and sisters Carmen, Myriam, Nydia and Glory. He received his business degree from Brooklyn College and began his commercial finance career at a young age in New York City before relocating to Puerto Rico in 1976. During the next 32 years, he held executive positions at Congress Credit Corp. and Westernbank. Following retirement in 2008, he founded Mishla Investment Corp., a residential rental property business. Throughout his accomplished career, Mike’s positive mindset and constant drive led him to great success. Beyond his professional life, Mike was a dedicated philanthropist. While in Brooklyn, he served on the neighborhood public school board and ran a local youth program. His service continued as PTA President of Colegio Rosa Bell and most notably as President of UNICEF in Puerto Rico. In his free time, Mike enjoyed listening to music, gardening, reading, drawing and attending performing arts events.
Mike will be forever loved by his wife of 43 years, Sharon, his daughter, Laura and her husband Chuck, his much-adored grandchildren Evan and Liam (who called him Abu), and his entire family including his many nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends. Mike was known for his commitment to family unity. His annual Christmas party was a highly anticipated event and brought together extended family and friends. He was a mentor to many in his life, always making time to listen and provide advice.
Mike will be remembered for being kind and generous, something all who knew him could affirm. He had a great love for Puerto Rico; he was a proud ambassador of its culture and a true believer in the heart of its people.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on June 3, 2022 at 7:00 PM, at Funeraria Buxeda.
