Rosario “Sary” Flores Betancourt, resident of Homestead, FL, passed away on Monday, September 17 at the age of 82 at her residence. She was comforted with the love and support of her family at the time of her passing.
Rosario was born in Ponce, PR on June 11th, 1936 the daughter of the late Francisco Flores and the late Antonia (Leon) Flores. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to William Betancourt-Rodriguez (MSGT).
Rosario is survived by her son William Betancourt, Jr. of Homestead, FL; daughter Milagros Hillgrove of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Priscilla Betancourt-Perkey and her husband David of Jacksonville, FL; grandchild Carlos Enrique Marrero and great-grandchild Enrique Carmelo Marrero of Jacksonville, FL; brother José Flores and his wife Dolores of San Juan, PR. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and faithful friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Henry Betancourt and her two brothers, Francisco “Yuyo” Flores and Miguel Flores.
Rosario earned her nurse certificate from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she later continued her studies and received a BS in Nursing the Inter American University of Puerto Rico.
For more than 25 years Rosario was a registered nurse for the Department of Veterans Affairs. She held various positions which included the Emergency Room Nurse Manager of the Miami VA Hospital. Prior to that she worked at the VA Hospital in North Port, NY and in San Juan, PR.
Rosario enjoyed gardening, painting, knitting, reading, sitting with her cats and walking her dogs.
Rosario was generous, loving, supportive and unselfish who always put other people before herself. She was charitable, giving, considerate and kind. She was always willing to help someone in need. She had the kindest heart of anyone we knew. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
