Astor loved life and had many hobbies. He loved fishing, baseball card collecting, being a soccer and basketball coach, and in the last several years a pretty good poker player playing in many tournaments. He was also a great cook, which he learned from being the oldest in a large family of brothers and sisters. Most important to him was his family. Every year he and his family traveled to Hawaii for vacation, a favorite place for him. He was so loved and respected by all who knew him. Astor spent 42 years working then retiring from Kepner Plastics in Torrance, California where he met many lifelong friends. Family and friends will miss his great smile, his care for others, his corny jokes, and his never ending strength of character and will to live.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Astor is survived by his wife Lynn Mayate, daughter Melissa Mayate and sons, Matthew and Michael Mayate and granddaughters, Mailyna and Malia Mayate. He is also survived by his 105 year old grandmother, Consolacion Mayate, his parents, Benjamin Sr and Pastora Mayate, siblings, Benjamin Jr, Annie, Allen, Albert, and Alma Mayate and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.
