Born in Lyngby, Denmark on Nov. 7, 1930 of a distinguished family line, Eiler secured his way to America through a job in New Jersey in 1957 at a global engineering company for which his great grand uncle, Alexander Foss, a well-known Danish industrialist, had become a partner (F.L. Smidth & Co.). Eiler was employed with Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco for 25 years. His passion was for photography, traveling and writing. He was an active member of the Danish Soldier’s Club of Northern California and of the Scandinavians of Sonoma County, having served each organization as Newsletter Editor. He was also an active member of the Tiburon Peninsula Action Committee in the 1970s, an organization responsible for the preservation of Blackie’s Pasture.
He is survived by his son Michael Foss of San Carlos; as well as his daughter Mette Nygard, son-in-law Aaron Nygard, and two grandchildren: Savanna Nygard and Sommer Nygard, all of San Rafael.
Funeral services will be held Sat., Dec. 14, 2013, 1:30-4:30 at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael with limited seating. Ashes will be scattered privately at the Golden Gate Bridge aboard “Tenacious,” courtesy of Michael and Kirsten Wagner.
