Mildred Campana Mildred passed away in her San Rafael home on June 22, 2017 in the arms of her loving husband, Richard Campana. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Irene. Mildred, also known as Millie or Mil, lived her young life in the small town environment of Petaluma, leaving her with many happy memories that lasted a lifetime. Shortly after her graduation from Petaluma High, she and a girlfriend ventured to the big city of San Francisco and secured employment with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. It was there that she met a young man who was to become her husband for the rest of her life. After a brief office romance, she and Richard Campana entered into a marriage that was to last for 67 wonderful years. That marriage was briefly put on pause when Richard entered the U.S. Army during the Korean war. On his return to civilian life, they purchased their first home in Linda Mar with a no down payment G.I. loan. In 1960 they moved to San Anselmo, and 8 years later bought their present home in San Rafael, where they have lived happily for the past 49 years. During her years of employment, she worked as a bookkeeper, accountant, cashier, sales clerk, and, her favorite, "Girl Friday." All of her employers loved her. She always looked forward to traveling with her husband on company conventions, golf vacations, cruises, and especially to places they had never seen before. She also liked to read, knit, and try her hand at painting, some of which was pretty good. She was an avid Giant's fan and, win or lose, she would watch every televised game to the last inning. Mil was a very giving and caring person. The other person always came first. She could be a little bit vulnerable, and yet very strong and supportive in a crises. She always came back with a smile and a can do attitude. She leaves behind her loving husband, Richard, 7 nieces and nephews, several special friends, her "buddy" Boots the lovable cat and her humming birds, whom she fed every day. A special thanks to Hospice by the Bay, particularly Nurse Laurel, who was of great comfort to Mil at a critical time. Mildred has requested that there be no services or memorials. Those who knew her will always remember that beautiful smile, one that could light up an entire room. Mil, please save that place next to you for me. I'll be with you soon, my love.
