Nancy Ann Dufficy Fewell Age 91, passed away at her home in San Rafael, surrounded by family on Thursday, June 28, 2018. From her birth in San Rafael, on November 3, 1926, to her death on Thursday, Nancy blessed those around her with her big heart, her gentle strength, and her enduring bond with her family.
Nancy was born in San Rafael to Rafael and Catherine (Ellis) Dufficy and was the youngest of four children. Nancy attended Dominican in San Rafael from kindergarten through the twelfth grade where she graduated and headed to University at Davis. It was at Davis where she agreed to play doubles tennis with a young man who soon became her partner for life. Nancy married Jim Fewell on August 14, 1947, and the two raised seven children together in San Rafael.
Nancy's job, her greatest joy in life, was her family. And, her family extended well beyond her seven children. Anyone who walked through the doors of her home knew they were someplace special. Nancy's home was a direct reflection of who she was...inviting, accepting, warm. It was in this home where Nancy welcomed foster children, pets, friends in need of a bite to eat or a place to stay. She made everyone feel welcome and cared for. This home is where she became a Tutu, a Hawaiian word for grandmother. It was a name she embraced and cherished and loved. Tutu was the center of what was to become a big, loud, loving family, and she loved nothing more. She was quick to laugh or share a funny joke. Her love was limitless, and everyone who met her felt it. The world lost a spirited, proud daughter; a loving, devoted wife; a selfless, wise mother; a treat-wielding, supportive grandmother and great-grandmother. Her legacy is her family, her pride, her joy, her everything.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of almost seventy-one years, Jim; sons Tim (Barb), Gary, and Jim (Liana); daughters Nandee (Tony), Laurie (Paul), Patty (Hoss), Karen (Larry), and June; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 11:00 at St. Raphael's Church, 1104 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael. The family would like to thank Hospice by the Bay for the great care they provided Nancy.
To Meg Dufficy...thank you for your calm presence during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations preferred to Hospice by the Bay or the charity of your choice.
