Peter B. Fleming passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022 at the age of 75. Pete grew up in Santa Venetia and was the son of Al and Phyllis Fleming. He attended elementary and middle schools in Santa Venetia and was a graduate of Terra Linda High School, where he played football. He managed local bands and worked at the family gas station (Fleming’s Mobil Service) where he later took ownership before selling it years later.
Pete enjoyed his sports, good music and dancing. He was an avid 49er and Giants fan. Pete loved taking his nephews to Giants games and treating them to a memorable day. His passion ran deep, from the early 49er days at Kezar Stadium to attending their 1990 Super Bowl win in New Orleans. He always had a take on which players to watch, who had playoff prospects, and which coaches made unforgivable trades. “How ‘bout them Niners” was a common greeting in his home.
Pete married the love of his life, Lydia and shared over 40 years of marriage together. They loved to travel, partake in slot tournaments, entertain in their home and spend time with their friends and family. They were known for their yearly Christmas parties, testaments to their extensive community and complete with elaborate spreads (the pinnacle of which was the flaming plumb cake). Pete gained an instant family with Lydia’s children, Liane (Greg) and John (Lisa). He became a very proud grandfather to Samantha, Edward, Kimberly and Jessica. He attended all of their sporting events and boasted about their accomplishments both academically and in sports. His grandchildren and nephews have fond memories of Pete in his old green Lincoln town car, playing Barry White en route to a Giants game, Train Town, the movies or the gold country. He was a natural grandpa and uncle, and brought endless joy to their childhoods.
Pete also leaves behind his adoring sisters, Gaye (Rich predeceased), Mary (Jeff) and Sally (Joey), along with several nieces and nephews.
Pete was known for his kindness, his sensitivity and his booming laugh. He always had a heartfelt comment or compliment to share, and understood the preciousness of life, the beauty of family and the joy of little moments with those he loved. He is deeply missed, and will forever be remembered for his heart, his humor, and his happy spirit.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite organization in his name would be a kind gesture.
