William H. Ecker Mar. 17, 1922 - Jan. 20, 2014 Born and raised in Delano, Pennsylvania, Bill's education was interrupted by World War II, when he served as a US Army officer at Fort Amador in the Panama Canal Zone. There he met and married the former Jean Irwin. He finished his education at Indiana University and moved to San Francisco to begin his career with Fibreboard Corporation, later settling in Marin County, where he and Jean raised their three children. Bill served in the Army Reserves throughout his career. After retiring from Fibreboard, he served on active duty for a short time at the Pentagon. He was named commanding general of the 63rd Army Reserve Command, including Southern California, Arizona and Nevada, ultimately achieving the rank of Major General. Following retirement from the Army Reserves in 1982, he became the Executive of the San Francisco Rotary Club, and later its president. He and Jean enjoyed traveling the world with Rotary. Bill is survived by Jean, his wife of 68 years, daughters Carol (Bob) Morse, Beverly (Eric) Greene, and son, Ken (Melinda) Ecker, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A celebration of his life will be held on March 1st, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Villa Marin, 100 Thorndale Drive, San Rafael. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice .
