Catherine R. Currier

Catherine R. “Caddy” Currier (Ellis) lifelong resident of Sandwich, MA, and tenth generation Cape Codder, died peacefully at home on March 9, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Caddy was born on May 9, 1926 in Sandwich, MA, to Mark H. F. Ellis and Catherine T. Ellis (O’Connell). Caddy is predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Currier, her five older siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Barbarann Britt-Currier. The youngest of six children, Caddy grew up in the home in which she was born in with her siblings: Edward, Harold, Robert, Mary Pauline, and William. Caddy graduated from Henry T. Wing School in 1944 and went on to become a wife, mother, florist, grandmother, and more recently, great-grandmother. She enjoyed being “Aunt Caddy” to all of her nieces and nephews, including some that are not even related. Caddy owned and operated Brookside Nursery and Garden Shop on Main Street in Sandwich for over 20 years with her brother, William Ellis. When not creating beautiful flower arrangements for the residents of the town of Sandwich and Cape Cod, she spent her time volunteering and fundraising for the “original” Sandwich Boardwalk rebuild, McCarthy Hospice House, Corpus Christi Parish, and the Sandwich Fire Department. In 1953, Caddy married Richard L. Currier of Sandwich, who later passed away in 2002. She is survived by her three sons: David (Barbarann) Currier of Plymouth, MA; Paul (Terri Gibbs) Currier of Sandwich, MA; and Mark (Hope) Currier of East Sandwich, MA. One of Caddy’s greatest joys was being a grandmother to her five grandchildren: Nathan (Charissa) Currier of Yarmouth Port, MA; Kendra (George) Currier Smith of Weymouth, MA; Teele (Marco) Becerra of Manassas, VA; Austin (Masha) Currier of Columbia, SC; and Elliott Currier of East Sandwich, MA. She loved being a great-“Grammy” to Caleb and Braden Currier and Sloane and Georgie Smith. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Corpus Christi Parish 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road East Sandwich, MA. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
