

Longtime Sandwich resident Chester S. Rich died Sunday December 14, 2014 at Cape Heritage in Sandwich. He was born August 5, 1919 in Wellfleet, MA the son of Ralph C. and Vera (Stockbridge) Rich. He was the husband of the late Norma (Vancini) Rich.
He attended schools in Wellfleet, Sandwich, Hull and Nahant. He moved to Sandwich in 1935 from Nahant. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard during WWII he participated in the invasions of Marshalls, Guam, Palau and Leyte. He was a member for 20 years. He served 28 years for the US Army Corp of Engineers. He worked as a Marine Traffic Controller.
He was a member of the American Rifle Association, the Shawme Fish and Game Club and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his son Chester A. Rich and his wife Patricia of Forestdale and a daughter, Cynthia Burroughs of Melbourne, FL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday December 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich. Burial will be in the Sandwich Town Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, December 17th, 4 – 7 p.m.
