Being a woodworker,  upon moving to Sandwich full time in the summer 2015, I one day stopped by Dave’s wood shop and introduced myself.  We got to talking and before long I asked him if he’d been in the service.  Turns out we’d both been in the very same outfit in Hanau, Germany (B Company, 23rd Engineer Battalion) but at different times -  Dave serving there several years before me.   I returned a couple days later and showed him several pictures of our old kasern (our base) and he asked me one question, “Where’s the cat walk”, proving to me that we truly where assigned to the very same outfit.  The cat walk connected our unit to the PX and snack bar and was located next to our barracks.   It was really neat running into Dave, a fellow soldier I never expected I’d find living in my retirement community of Sandwich, Massachusetts.  Larry Kellam

Dave was my neighbor for 15 years n what a remarkable man he was. He was so talented with carpentry. Very funny.  Hard worker.  And a man who didn't bother anyone. I just recently learned of his passing. Anyone have an address I can forward a card to ???  Rip brother.  I'll never ever forget you.  Amen

I think you must still be finding the opportunity to laugh up there, David.  I treasure all of the tear streaming down cheeks laughs we shared as you diligently helped my little Valhalla Farm become more functional with your special building skills...sheep sheds, horse gates, fencing, barn doors, tack sheds, Adirondack chairs, birdhouses.....you are so very  much missed.  Ride on, pal....and I so hope to meet up with you again along the way.  

RIP David….Thanks for the Sandwich Main Street memories and your creative efforts designing our garden.  Your feathered friends will miss you!

My father made covered bridge bird feeders for the kids in my family when we got our own houses. After 35 years and two repairs I brought pieces to Dave and this was his replacement!  He then went into mass production and we bought 6.  Chatting was his second passion besides woodworking and I learned he often stopped for breakfast at my wife's grandparents - Alvan and Elsie Crocker on his way to work on the base as a young man.  He just made us a "doublewide" chair a couple of months ago and the grandkids kids love it.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I knew him for more than 40 years and saw him all the time - he was always toiling away in his little shed, making bird houses, fashioning chairs and tables (of which I have many). He was a brilliant landscaper, he had great stories of his days in the US Army (in Germany), he was always himself - a decent and hard-working and very funny man, and a great friend.

We have the sweetest memories of joining David to watch the Sandwich town July 4th parade with his family as parade goers bought birdhouses. He was a family friend and helped us create the gardens of our family home. We have happy memories of him and send condolences to his family.

We are so saddened to learn of Dave's passing.  He was such a sweet man and wonderful neighbor.  He always gave us a big wave and smile when we were walking by.  

My Grandparents, Emily and Jack Sharkey, lived across the street from the Beuchemin’s. I spent nearly every Summer in the 1940s and a portion of the third grade in the Henry T Wing.  My, how it’s grown. Dave and I were pals. We did nearly everything together. A neighbor close by had her house re-shingled and we each earned a dollar by cleaning and stacking her old shingles. My GrandMother framed that dollar bill. It’s sitting on my desk. Dave never did tell me what he did with his dollar.
I returned to Sandwich last year to research family genealogy and passed by my Grandparents home. The houses have numbers on them now. There, across the street from 183, standing outside was David. All the memories came back.  David was sharp as a tack reminding me of those old stories. I’m glad Dave and I took the time to reminisce about the old days. Rest in peace, David.


David you were my classmate  for many years at Henry T Wing you were always a quiet person preferring to keep your talents to yourself.  May you Rest In Peace along with a few others from our class.

I use to see Dave out in his yard quite often in the good weather. Nice guy to talk with about the old days in Sandwich. He was also a talented woodworker making quality Adirondack chairs. RIP Dave. My condolences to the Beauchemin family.





 I always liked to chat with Mr. Beauchemin (known as the "bird man" to my kids).  He was a kind and interesting man.  May he have a tree as big and beautiful in heaven to nap under as the one in his front yard!    

David was a client of mine for 22 years at Almeida & Carlson Insurance Agency.  Over the 22 years that I knew him, he became a friend. He was quick to laugh and smile when talking about making his doll furniture and bird houses.  I will always remember that he was kind and genuine and that he loved making his bird houses; and they brought many people joy.  It was a pleasure to have had him as a client and a friend, he will truly be missed.
