As I sat by his side, holding his hand, my husband passed away silently and peacefully on Tuesday, September 29th at the McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich. He was a good man, a handsome man with a beautiful smile and a quiet strength.
We both graduated in 1964 from West Bridgewater High School but it wasn’t until he returned one summer from college in California that our journey together began. We were married in a little church surrounded by a small intimate group of family and friends on December 29, 1967.
David was born August 6, 1946 in Brockton, Ma, the son of James L. and Virginia Emery Warren. Sadly, David and his siblings, Jim and Leslie, lost their parents as teenagers. While we lived in the family home in Central Square, West Bridgewater, our daughter Nikki Sue arrived in 1969 and four years later in 1973 our daughter Stacey Lynn was born. That same year, David built our first house and we moved our young family to Sandwich.
By 1985, David had become an established custom home contractor and skilled finish carpenter. We needed more space for both his business and our small menagerie of horses, dogs & cats. When an antique home on several acres became available nearby on Route 6A, David quickly purchased and renovated it, adding a barn. We have lived happily in this home for the past 40 years.
We had a good life together. In 1998, our daughter Nikki blessed us with our beautiful granddaughter, Amber Nicole Draper and in 2001 we welcomed into the family Stacey’s husband and David’s new buddy Gary Gustafson.
We enjoyed many vacations with our children and friends in England, Scotland, the BVI’s, Mexico, Canada and several states. David loved golf and hopping on his John Deere tractor to care for his yard. With gratitude we thank his very good friends who continued to include him in golf and help him at home even as his illness progressed.
I will always treasure our memories and remain forever grateful for the 59 years he stood by my side through thick and thin: His wife Carol Warren, October 4, 2026.
We wish to thank the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich for making these last days comfortable and peaceful for both David and our family. We also wish to thank the VNA nurses, Sandwich first responders and the Alzheimer's Support Center in Hyannis.
If you wish to make a donation in David’s memory, please designate your gift to the Cape Cod HealthCare Foundation in support of the McCarthy Care Center, and mail to CCHC Foundation, PO Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601.
