Born on October 15, 1953, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Debbie was the daughter of Donald Carter and Barbara Whalen Carter. For 35 years, she was the proud and successful owner of The Plant Lady on Cape Cod, where her passion for plants and gardening blossomed into a beloved local institution.
Debbie was known for arriving with a joke, a contagious laugh, and her unmistakably beautiful whistle. She found joy in tending to her plants and gardens, in the ocean she loved, in the birds she watched, and in crafting seashell creations that reflected her coastal spirit. No visit with Debbie was complete without one of her home cooked meals or sweet treats—she never arrived empty handed and always brought comfort in the form of food and love.
Her laughter, her generosity, and her unwavering warmth will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Kenny Hughes, and her son, Matt Hughes, her greatest joy, along with many cherished family members and friends who will forever hold Debbie’s memory close.
