Duane E. Hayes

Mr. Duane E. Hayes, 79, of Sagamore Beach, MA, formerly of Corunna, MI, died July 8, 2014 with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Hetty (Luider) Hayes with whom she has shared 56 ½ years with.

Born and raised in Corunna, MI, Duane was the son of the late Kenneth and Elinor (Berry) Hayes. He was a graduate of Corunna High School, Class of 1952. Following graduation, Duane honorably served his country in the US Army. After the Army, he obtained his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University. Mr. Hayes was a teacher in the Oscoda Public School District for 36 years.

Having moved to Sagamore Beach, MA in 2001, Duane enjoyed riding his bike, cross country skiing, cooking and reading. He was very musically talented and artistic. He sang in the church choir for many years. Duane was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tammy Elsenheimer and husband Tim of Lagrange, ME, son, Troy Hayes and wife Elaine of Nashua, NH, brothers, Dale Hayes and wife Bonnie of Saginaw, MI, Dan Hayes of Owosso, MI, sisters, Darlene Ustynek and husband Frank of Owosso, MI, Diane Johnson and husband Keith of Corunna, MI, Mary Henry and husband Ed of Oakley, MI, 5 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Hayes’ Memorial Service on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11AM in First Church of Christ, 136 Main Street, Sandwich.
