Eleanor "Ellie" G. McMichen

Eleanor G. “Ellie” McMichen (Gallo), 91, passed away on August 30, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sagamore on November 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John and Alide (Giovo) Gallo. A resident of Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, Ellie remained deeply connected to the community and places that shaped her life.

Ellie was born and grew up in Sagamore. She graduated from Bourne High School. When she married Tom, her Air Force pilot, adventures continued, living in California, Michigan, Germany, Texas, New Jersey and Connecticut before settling in Sagamore Beach.

As a mother, she was the heart of her family. Her strength gave us courage, her generosity taught us to give, her attention to detail taught us to care, and her welcoming spirit taught us that there is always room for one more at the table, sharing a meal, a story, or a laugh. She created a sense of home wherever she was. Steadfast in her love, and unwavering when it came to the people and things that mattered most. She was a mother who protected fiercely, loved deeply, and gave of herself without hesitation.

With a deep love of travel and a genuine curiosity about the world, she embraced every opportunity to discover new places, experience different cultures, meet new people, and create memories along the way. From Australia to Cancun through Europe and South America, her adventures reflected her spirit: independent, curious, engaged, and always ready to experience something new.

Entertaining was one of the ways she expressed her love. She took pleasure in preparing meals, and bringing people together around the table. Food was never simply food to her—it was hospitality, celebration, comfort, and connection.

Ellie had an extraordinary eye for detail. Nothing escaped her notice, whether it was a small need someone had mentioned in passing, a beautifully set table, a special occasion that deserved to be remembered, or simply the little things that made a house feel like home. Her thoughtful attention was woven into everything she did.

Traveling, cooking, and watching the Red Sox play—interests that brought joy to everyday moments and drew family and friends together. Whether preparing a special meal or hosting a gathering, Ellie poured her heart into bringing people together. Her thoughtfulness, welcoming spirit, and generosity will be deeply missed. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. But the love she gave so freely remains—in the traditions she created, the lessons she taught, the memories around the table, and in the people who are better because she loved them.

Ellie is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Thomas McMichen; her sister, Cecilia (Dave) Collins; and her brother, Louis (Carol) Gallo. She also leaves behind her daughter, Julie McMichen; her sons, Blane (Chris) McMichen and Richard (Tina) McMichen; and her grandchildren, Patrick, Bridget, Tommy, and Julie McMichen, and Ross (Kagan) Bachman. Blessed with great-grandchildren, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, who will carry her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her brother John Gallo, nephew Anthony “Jon Jon” Gallo, and granddaughter Katie Bachman.

Visitation will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563, on September 4, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd, Sandwich, MA 02537, on September 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Burial will follow at Sandwich Town Cemetery, Route 130, Sandwich, MA 02563, on September 5, 2026, from 12:15 pm to 12:30 pm.
