

Franklin George Gilfoy was born March 2,1933 in Newport, Rhode Island. He moved to Sandwich at age 2 and was raised by his grandparents. He attended the Henry T. Wing School and joined the US Army at age 17, serving in Germany as a Private First Class.
After the Army, he served as a volunteer firefighter and then spent most of his life driving trucks. In 1953 he married Claire Rassmussen and raised 4 children, instilling in each of them an unwavering work ethic. Later in life, he moved to Forestdale and was a meticulous gardener who was well-known for his vegetable stand with delicious corn. He also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, Florida & Pennsylvania in his camper. In addition to his hobbies and work, he was deeply devoted to and extremely proud of his family.
He is survived by his loving partner, Charlene Hebert, and her sons Jason Hebert and Christopher Campbell. As well as his sister, Judy Gilfoy; cousin, Tommy Tucker; and children, Marilyn and her husband Gary Johnson, Bob Gilfoy and his wife Becky, Daniel Gilfoy and his wife Colleen, Donna and her husband Bob Silva; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Holly. Each of them held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Beacon Hospice, especially Jackie, Jessica and Mark.
A memorial visitation will be held at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich on Wednesday, April 23rd from 1-5 pm. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 5:00 PM. Burial is private.
