G. Peter Williams, 81, of Sandwich, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Winthrop to Charles and Eileen Williams, Peter graduated from Winthrop High School as a member of the close-knit Class of 1962. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and met the love of his life, Patty McShane.
Peter went on to enjoy a distinguished career in aviation as a commercial pilot before becoming chair of the aviation program at North Shore Community College. Beyond aviation, he was a highly skilled craftsman who excelled in all building trades, with a particular mastery of carpentry. He founded Williams Building Company on the North Shore and later worked alongside his son, Tim, helping manage his firm of the same name on Cape Cod.
Peter was devoted to his family, his friends, and his community. He shared 60 years of marriage with his wife, Patty. Together they raised two children: Timothy Williams of Cape Cod, and Jennifer Williams, R.N., who returned home from University of Miami to care for her father during his illness.
Peter is survived by his wife, Patty; his children, Tim, his wife Greer Brath Williams, Jenny and her partner Kris O’Brien; his grandchildren, Macklin, Caroline, and Christian; many step-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Bensing, Cate Parker, and Day Ann Kelley. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Eileen Williams; his sisters Ellen and Virginia Shaw; his brother Stan; and his brother-in-law Tim Bensing.
An active member of the Sandwich community, Peter belonged to Sandwich Newcomers and Neighbors and served as chair of the Sandwich Historic District Committee. He will be remembered for his quick wit, remarkable memory, and the wisdom and guidance he so generously shared with others. To so many, Peter was the person everyone turned to for help, perspective, and understanding.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Peter’s life will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following at Wimpy’s of Osterville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity he faithfully supported for many years.
