

George Edward Elvander, of East Sandwich, passed away Tuesday, April 28th at the McCarthy Care Center surrounded by family. He was married to his wife Jacquelyn (Stuart) Elvander for 61 years. Born in Sandwich, MA on November 23, 1931, he was the son of the late Edward and Marjorie (Decker) Elvander.
George was a graduate of Sandwich High School in the class of 1949. He was a veteran of the United States Army. George worked as a police officer for the town of Sandwich for 39 years, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 188. He enjoyed Legion Baseball, reading and relaxing at the canal, eating at Marshland Restaurant, going on bus trips to Foxwoods, scratch tickets, and watching his grandchildren play sports. Another one of his passions was commercial tuna fishing on the S.S. Ferrante out of New Bedford.
Besides his wife Jacquelyn he is survived by his three daughters; Debra Finnegan (Fredrick), Gayle Fitzpatrick (Tom), and Pamela Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters; Jean Reardon, Louise Bruce, Judith Ghoslin, and Mary Reid and brother; Robert Elvander. He was predeceased by his brother David Elvander. He was the proud grandfather of Kate, Kelsey, and Molly Finnegan and Kristin, Mary, and Patrick Taylor. He also leaves five great-grandchildren; Kaylie, Elijah, Jordan, Jeremiah, and Nevaeh.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA. Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 2 – 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory may be made to McCarthy Care Center 73 Service Road East Sandwich 02537 or VNA of Cape Cod 67 Ter Heun Drive Falmouth, MA 02540.
