Gerry was born in Boston to the late Gerald and Martha (Buchwald) Simpson. Growing up in Jamaica Plain, he attended local schools and graduated from Boston Trade School. After graduation he heard the call of duty and joined the U.S. Army, where he flew the first target drones during the Korean War. After returning to civilian life, he met Virginia in 1956. The two were wed thereafter in 1958 and resided in Newtonville. The two relocated to Foxboro in 1959 to start raising their family. In 1963 they purchased a plot of land in Sandwich to build a home, which was completed in 1995 where they relocated there upon retiring after 45 years of service as Regional Sales Manager at the Barnstead Company in Boston.
Gerry was a man of many passions and talents. He enjoyed collecting seashells, building numerous ship models, was a NASCAR enthusiast, enjoyed fishing, but above all was his love of spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia A. (Hart) Simpson, their children Gerald Simpson Jr. and his wife Susan, Barbara Thompson and her husband Gregory. Grandfather to Megan and Benjamin Thompson and Keith Taylor.
