

Janet Garfield, 93, formerly of Sandwich, passed away on January 25, 2025. Born in Adams, MA on March 9, 1931, to William and Alda (Morrissey) Wilson, Janet lived a long, full life filled with love, family, friends, and community. In 2005, Janet was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Bruce Hamilton Garfield. Janet and Bruce raised their family in Norwell, MA. Janet spent many years employed as an administrative assistant on the South Shore including several years at Norwell High School. In 1995 Janet and Bruce retired and moved to Cape Cod.
Janet deeply loved her family. She is survived by her son Scott Garfield and his wife Monica, of Wellesley, and her daughter, Kristen Garfield Urribarri and her husband Jaime, of East Sandwich. She also leaves behind her four adored grandchildren, Korinna Garfield, Cameron Garfield, Luke Urribarri, and Bennett Urribarri. She was also predeceased by her older brothers Cliff and Roger Wilson.
A dedicated volunteer, Janet‘s legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a member of First Church Sandwich where she spent many years as part of the Church Circle and Visitor’s Committee. Additionally, she donated time weekly at the Green Briar Nature Center. In 2017 Janet was recognized by the Massachusetts State Senate for over 20 years of volunteer service as an ESL tutor in the Plymouth Literacy program. Janet was an avid reader, and loved to travel. She enjoyed visiting the Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum each year. Her happy place was a daily afternoon walk along the Cape Cod Canal which she continued to do until her mid-eighties!
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Cape Cod in the late spring of 2025. Janet’s children wish to thank the wonderful staff at both Keystone Place Assisted Living in Buzzards Bay and AdviniaCare Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer’s for the care and support they provided Janet over the last five years. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod , 411 Main Street, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675 or to the Salvation Army, 100 North Street, Hyannis, MA 02601.
