

EAST SANDWICH — Scovill, Janice Rita (Walsh), 94, of East Sandwich, passed away at home from cancer on Monday, May 19, 2025. She was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Thomas and Alice (MacDonald) Walsh on February 4, 1931.
Janice grew up in New Bedford, studying business and graduating from New Bedford High School. During her life in New Bedford, Janice worked as a bookkeeper at Giusti’s Baker and then as an operator at the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. While at the telephone company she met the love of her life, Raymond Scovill and married. The couple built a home and moved to Sandwich in 1960. While raising their seven children, Janice worked as a chambermaid at Sandy’s Motor Lodge and the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich. For many years, she scheduled deliveries for Sears, Roebuck and Co. and later for Garvey Moving & Storage. Janice was last employed at Hy-Line Cruises of Hyannis, preparing the delicious meals and snacks for those to enjoy while cruising aboard the ferries to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
During her lifetime, Janice volunteered teaching Sunday School at the First Church of Christ, serving lunches at the Sandwich Senior Center, preparing meals for Meals on Wheels, and attending to customers at the St. John’s Thrift Shop.
Janice is survived her sister, Joan Swain of New Bedford, brother John Walsh Seattle, WA, son Raymond Thomas, daughter Sharon Beaudette of Fitchburg, MA, daughter, Janet Miller of Old Town, ME, son, Richard of E. Falmouth, MA, daughter, Sandra Cullinan of Harvard, MA, son, John of Clearwater, FL, and son, Peter of Centerville, MA, fourteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A private ceremony will be held graveside at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne where she will join her husband.
