Jeannette was born in New Bedford, MA and was the daughter of the late Manuel Soares Rose and Mary Kmiec of Sandwich, MA where she lived during her childhood.
Ms. Rose dedicated much of her professional life to science with her work and research in corneal medicine, focusing on both the common and less common diseases. She spent several years abroad, primarily in France, in close collaboration with world-renowned Cornea and Refractive Surgery specialists establishing new protocols for successful treatments of diseases in the field.
An avid wildlife conservationist and animal advocate, Jeannette was equally dedicated to ensuring housing protection for low-income and homeless individuals. She established the “Jeannette Rose Award for Science/Technology” scholarship via the Sandwich Education Association to be presented annually to Sandwich High School graduates.
She is survived by an uncle and aunt: Joseph “Uncle Joey” & Victoria Kmiec, and cousins: John Kmiec & wife Malgorata and their 2 children; Stas Kmiec; Christine (Kmiec) Markowski & husband Jerzy; and Diane Kmiec.
Ms. Rose’s Funeral will be held from the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rte. 6A, Sandwich on Wednesday at 10AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 11AM in Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd., Sandwich. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Sandwich. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Heifer International, the MSPCA, ASPCA or other charity of their choice.
