Joanne F. (Tamburo) DiFiore passed away on November 20th at Harbor Point in Centerville. Joanne was born in Boston on November 28, 1936, one of four children of the late Oreste and Mary Tamburo. Raised in Brighton, Joanne graduated with high honors from Brighton High School. After graduating she worked at New England Telephone Company where she met her husband Herb. He was just back from his enlistment in the military. They married in January 1957, lived in Revere briefly, and then moved to Brighton where they raised their daughters. Joanne loved to entertain, travel and go out with her many friends that were as close to her as family.

After Joanne retired from her cherished job at the Chestnut Hill School in 1999, she and Herb moved to the Cape full time and visited Marco Island during the winter. She enjoyed reading, taking long walks, doing puzzles and spending endless hours at the beach. Joanne had a passion for gardening, and over the years she created her dream spot in South Dennis. Joanne’s love of flowers came from her father who would bring her cut flowers from his garden and when her South Dennis summer home was built in 1976, he brought hostas and gladiolas from his gardens to plant around her new home. But most of all Joanne was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Parish in Allston and then St. Pius X Parish in Yarmouth. Joanne found solace and peace in her faith, she prayed for everyone, and a small prayer book, prayer cards or rosaries were always nearby.

Joanne is lovingly survived by her husband, Herbert T. DiFiore, to whom she was devotedly married for almost sixty-three years. Loving mother of Judy Gallauresi and husband Bill of Swanzey, NH, Cynthia Hickey and husband Michael of Melrose, and beloved grandmother of Michael James and Bethany. Caring sister of John Tamburo of Hopkinton and the late Theresa LaMattina and Elizabeth DiSanzo. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 26th at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich from 9 to 10:30, followed by mass at 11am at Corpus Christi Church in Sandwich. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benchmark Associate Holiday Fund (Harbor Point, 22 Richardson Rd, Centerville MA 02632).

Only an AUNT can give hugs like a mother, keep secrets like a sister and share love like a friend.

Auntie Joanne was so very special; kind, considerate, loving, thoughtful and lived and practiced her Catholic Faith.

A devoted wife, mom, aunt, sister, sister-in-law & friend.
Life does not require that we be the best, only try that we try our best...Auntie Joanne you were the BEST!

Time passes, memories stay
and you will be remembered every day.

May perpetual light shine upon you and sleep in heavenly peace.

Herb and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Joanne's passing. Hearing about this made me very sad. Joanne was always one of my favorite customers and always reminded me of my mom. Every week I enjoyed talking with Joanne and Herb when they would come in to CVS to shop. I haven't seen them in a while and have been thinking about both of them. Please know I am thinking and praying for you all and if there is anything I can do please let me know.
