OBITUARY

John Wallace MacDonald

January 10, 1944February 13, 2018

John (Jack) Wallace MacDonald was a brave fighter and lost his battle with cancer on February 13, 2018 at the age of 74. He was born January 10, 1944 in Boston, MA to Virginia Helen (Wallace) and John William MacDonald. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his adoring wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Detrano) and their children; son John William MacDonald and his wife Rebecca of Allentown, PA, and daughter Kristen MacDonald Longueil and her husband Richard of Sandwich, MA. Jack’s greatest treasure was his family and greatest joys were following the successes of his four incredible grandchildren; Jack, Emma, Joseph and Ian. Jack will be forever remembered by his family and friends as being someone they could count on for help, advice, direction, and love. He was well known on the South Shore and Cape Cod for his years of managing various grocery stores. He was also an avid Boston sports fan, reader and loved golfing with friends and family. Jack served in many organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Cape Abilities of Cape Cod, and the Echo Retreat for Youth. He was also the envy of the neighborhood for his perfect lawn. Jack is predeceased by his brother Robert. He leaves behind his sister-in-law Kathleen of Old Saybrook, CT, his brothers Paul and wife Kathleen of Hanover, Joseph and wife Joan of Hull, sisters Virginia Allan of Braintree, Joan Bonner and husband John of Scituate, Carol Simmons Rud and husband Gil of Coronado, CA. He will be dearly missed by his 24 loving nieces and nephews. Jack’s unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who crossed his path. With services being held during Lent, flowers are not permitted in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the ACTS Ministry of Corpus Christi Church in Sandwich, where Jack found great comfort, great peace, and great friends. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd., East Sandwich, on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00am. Immediately following the service, a celebration of Jack’s life will be held in the parish hall adjacent to the church.

My deepest condolences to Jack's family. I was privileged to get to know him in my volunteer role at CCH. No matter how he was feeling when he came in for treatment, he had a smile on his face, a warm greeting and a positive attitude. He was a wonderful inspiration for all of us.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss and I hope, in time, the memories you have will help to ease your pain. I am so grateful we reconnected over the last several years and were able to remember our days at Angelo's, share life's stories and have a few laughs. Jack was a wonderful man and we have an angel watching over us until we see him again. My love to all of you.

So stunned to hear of Jack's passing. Here's hoping you remember only fond memories, and healing comes quickly for all.
May you keep Jack (Dad) in your hearts always.

Dottie, John, and Kristen my deepest sympathy to all of you and the rest of the family. There has only been less than a handful of people that has touched my life and Jack is one. Jack as you know was like a big brother to me. I enjoyed working for him and especially living one house down from you guys. Enjoyed having coffees at the house and just talking to him and you. I will miss Jack. My deepest love and prayers to you all.
