June (Craig) Robie was born in Manchester, NH where she met and married Richard D. Robie. From an early age, she was willing to push boundaries of what a woman could accomplish, a true pioneer, she worked hard and persevered. She attended Rivier University with her dear friend, Judy Willis, after which they both went to work at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in research. She raised a family with 4 children in Pembroke, MA while working as a Laboratory Director at Plymouth County Hospital and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Public Health from Framingham State College, by attending evening classes. June rounded out her career as Head of the Health Services Laboratory at Bridgewater State University where she was affectionately called “June Bug” by many who knew her on campus. Working full-time, she still found time to volunteer by helping students make an Aids quilt to bring attention to the terrible disease.
June’s dream was to live on Cape Cod and she made it happen…no surprise! She was extremely energetic and cherished spending time with friends skiing, golfing, bike riding on the canal, dining out and traveling to many locations including Florida, Alaska, Arizona, Ireland and Italy. Even after official retirement, she worked part time performing medical insurance exams all over the Cape and Islands and then volunteered at the local consignment shop.
She loved spending time outdoors with her children and grandchildren and bringing them swimming at local ponds, beaches and hiking on preserved lands. June was blessed with many hobbies and talents over the years including sewing, quilting, gardening and enjoying her flowers. She also had a passion for helping others through volunteering for and donating to many organizations. In her community on Cape Cod, she was a wonderful mentor for Alateen youth and was an active member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church community. Woven throughout her life, she had a strong and unwavering faith in God. At the age of 82, she defied odds with a strength and resiliency that pulled her through a miraculous triple heart valve surgery, to the amazement of Doctors, family and friends.
June was always active in body and mind and until the age of 86, practiced yoga, attended physical therapy, watched Red Sox games, played scrabble and took rides to see the Ospreys with her son. She walked nearly daily in her neighborhood with a smile and friendly hello to anyone she saw. June had a full and satisfying life full of hope and lifted up others with her positivity and loving kindness, which will be especially missed by her family and friends. She will remain forever in our hearts.
June Carol Craig was predeceased by her daughters Kimberly Thompson and Sandra Quigley and parents Ruth Gallagher and George Craig. She is survived by Son Stephen Robie of Sandwich, MA; Daughter Maura Robie (partner Thomas Grasso) of Woodstock, CT; Granddaughter Shauna McCarthy (husband Charles); Grandsons Daniel Thompson and Eric Thompson; Sister Nancy Brodeur (husband Norman); Brother Mike Craig (wife Claire) of Phoenix, AZ and loving nephews, nieces, friends and her beloved cat, Mary.
