Margaret A. “Peggy” Dion, 84, of East Sandwich, formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her girls. Peggy was born in Quincy and grew up in Waltham. She is a graduate from Saint Mary High School, where she met her husband of 40 years, Roland Dion, who passed away in 1996.
Peggy attended Regis College and interned for two summers in El Paso Texas with her life long friends. She went on to graduate earning her teaching degree. She taught for 15 years at Saint Patrick School in Stoneham and continued teaching in the Worcester area for a few years before settling for the "beach life" in Sandwich.
Peg was happiest on the beach with family and her good friends from the "East Sandwich Beach Club." Even happier, after such a long wait, watching The Red Sox hang 4 banners in her life time. She was their biggest fan by far. A humble and kind soul, Peg volunteered at the Sandwich Food Pantry for the last 20 years where she met some very special and caring people.
She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Maureen & John MacLeod of East Sandwich, Susan & Manfred Gerzabek of San Diego, CA, Ellen & Paul Crowell of Sandwich, and Julie & Aaron Brochu of South Dennis, and her grandchildren, Meagan, Livy and John MacLeod, Joe and Amy Ford, Adam and Bridget Brochu.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 27th, at 11AM at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, followed by a Celebration of Life lunch at the church hall. Donations in memory of Peggy may be made to your local food pantry.
