Natalia "Talia" Marie (Benz) Fisher, born June 24, 1917 in New Jersey to the late Otto and Marie (Urweider) Benz, died on September 9, 2012 at the Heritage Assisted Living Facility in Falmouth, MA. Natalia leaves behind her two sons, Frederick G. Fisher, III and his wife, Ann, of England, and Hamilton B. Fisher and his wife, Gloria, of New York City. Talia is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and sister, Norine "Rene" Kirschner, of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her daughter, Genevieve Fisher, and her brother and sister, Carl and Thelma Benz.
Natalia grew-up in North Haledon, N.J. She had a strong love for art and became a commercial artist. Natalia was recognized for her creative talents and earned many awards for her work.
Talia met her husband, the late Frederick G. Fisher, Jr., in Westfield, Massachusetts on December 10, 1942. They later married on September 18, 1943 at the Episcopal Church of North Haledon, N.J. Mr. Fisher had enlisted in the Army and was immediately sent overseas to the Philippines on April 17, 1943, leaving behind his new bride. They reunited in 1946 and moved into their first home in Waban, MA where they raised their three children. The family enjoyed summers together in Sagamore Beach, MA. After her husband's death in 1989, Talia permanently moved to Cape Cod.
As the wife of the former President of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Head of General Practice Section of the American Bar Association, Talia was renown for her parties for her husband's firm and also the Newton Republican Party. She was also a great support to her husband when he was subject to a rash and wholly inaccurate attack by Joe McCarthy, Senator from Wisconsin, and instigator of the infamous "red scare" of the 1950s. When Talia wasn't standing by her husband's side during political campaigns, she showed a love for flowers and became a member of the Newton Garden Club. She also judged competitions of flower arrangements throughout Massachusetts.
Natalia will be sorely missed by those who knew her. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the First Church of Christ, 136 Main Street in Sandwich. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on Natalia's behalf to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601. www.nickersonbournefuneralhome.com
